The name Memoryhouse is itself, a tribute to German composer Max Richter's seminal work and the project was originally a means to escape the paralysis of winter. It mixes ambient loops, breezy samples, aquatic guitars, and burbling synths. View wiki. We are a music band hailing from the land of north called didnt actually set out to be a band. It took form as a collaborative project meant to serve as an artistic outlet for composer Evan Abeele and photographer Denise Nouvion. Evan, a dedicated student of classical music and a pop-music encyclopedist, intended Memoryhouse to be a multimedia art project, pairing his instrumental compositions with Denises photographs and short films. Combining their musical and visual artwork seemed the most promising, and least unhealthy, strategy for battling archetypal adolescent angst worsened by the paralyzing effects of Canadian winter. Memoryhouse remains audacious but careful, intimate but vivid, innovative but reverent. In 2002, Richters ability to weave subtle electronics against the grand BBC Philharmonic Orchestra helped suggest new possibilities and locate fresh audiences that composers such as Nico Muhly and Michał Jacaszek have since pursued. A few relatively straightforward pieces for strings and sometimes horns help anchor Memoryhouse. For instance, Last Days works as a symphonic crescendo, with incisive strings providing the tension against a march of low brass and concert percussion. 1 Critical reception
