LibriVox recording of This World Is Taboo, by Murray Leinster. Read by Mark F. Calhoun is an Interstellar Medical Serviceman, and he's needed on Dara. Trouble is: Dara is forbidden. And breaking quarantine will make Calhoun a presumed plague-carrier and subject to being shot on sight by anyone from Weald. But hey If he did the smart thing, we wouldn't have a story But why are men from Dara shooting at him Summary by Mark F. The Interstellar Medical Service was just about the only remaining galactic organization that every one of the hundreds of inhabited planets respected. So World Is Taboo. Murray LEINSTER 1896 - 1975. But hey . Murray Leinster. But hey If he did the smart thing, we wouldn't have a story But why are men from Dara shooting at him . THIS WORLD IS TABOO hat Leinster, selbst Reisender im Time Tunnel, 1961 geschrieben, um die Verhältnisse der USofA im Wahljahr 2016 minimal verallegorisiert darzustellen. Calhoun, Mitarbeiter des galaktischen Gesundheitsamtes, soll den Planeten Weald Amerika inspizieren, was sich jedoch schwieriger als gedacht gestaltet, da man ihm die Einreise verweigern will. A classic, although maybe just because Murray Leinster made is so. Of course there is a modest hero who singlehandedly saves 3 planets. The dilemma he faces seems impossible to solve with satisfaction for both threatened civilizations. This World is Taboo is one of Murray Leinster's Med Service yarns. It originally appeared in Amazing in 1960 under the title Pariah Planet. It received little critical attention when it first appeared, and what little it got was lukewarm. I believe that it deserves a better fate it is one of the top half dozen novels that Leinster wrote. It has one characteristic that makes it stand out a bit from the other stories in the Med Service series: There is an understated romance between Calhoun and the heroine, and there is even a tone of regret when the heroine marries somebod.
