My copy isn't a white label. It's a slightly lighter brown label than the official release. The only etching is "MBV02-A-1" on side one and "MBV02-B-1" and it is dated copyright 2016 whereas on the official release is the etching "MOV02-17-A-1" and "BH 82121-01 A" on side one and "MBV02-17-B-1" and "BH 82121-01 B" on side two and it is dated 2017.

It's my understanding that they may have pressed at multiple plants in England, France, & Germany, with the hopes of finding the best sound. I wonder if all these free extra copies have the same runout #'s and etchings.

Here's a passage detailing elements of an interview with Kevin and Rolling Stone:The final hurtle this time was in physical production. He found that manufacturers each had unique sounds. “If you go to a French manufacturer, it’s gonna come across a lot softer sounding and warmer than if you go to a British manufacturer, where it’s gonna come across a lot more high end,” he says. They eventually settled on a German facility because it was the most accurate. Throughout the process he went through various test pressings and later realized that full runs also sounded different, so they began doing short runs of 100. “We literally have a few thousand records lying around,” he says. “All experiments and failures.”When he was auditioning manufacturers, he found that many seemed not to care about the quality of their product. “When I played the original version from ’91, it sounded more exciting than all these cuts that I was achieving now,” he says. “[The companies] just make vinyl and they take advantage of the fact that 50 percent of people who buy it don’t even listen to it. And the other 50 percent are only getting into it for the first time. So you have a situation where only 25 percent of people can even tell if it’s crap or not.”

Nope....all copies were pressed at Optimal Media in Germany. I think you’re mixed up between pressing and cutting processes. They had Sean Magee at Abbey Road cut the ‘alternate pressings’ but then decided to get Matt Colton at Alchemy to cut them and ultimately they preferred the Alchemy cut.

I have two copies and they both have the same runout numbers MBV02.A.1 (SIDE A) and MBV02.B.1 ¡...¡ (SIDE B)

I received this alternate version. Mine is a white label though, not a printed label as shown here. Did anyone else get a white label version? Is it worth adding this (images and details) to this release or would it constitute a separate listing?
Balladolbine Balladolbine
If it's a white label then it's a different release and should be added even if the runouts are the same.
ACOS ACOS
Just double checked and as I thought, exactly the same runouts including i...i on b side - that’s why I wasn’t sure if it warranted a separate entry.
Tujar Tujar
I'm curious as well, does yours have different info in the runout?
Gerceytone Gerceytone
Different center label means a new submission on Discogs usually. I think you should submit it to the database. It is very interested to know if it has the same matrix in the runout groove? Thank you!

This isn't a rejected test pressing. It's an alternative cut of the album. It was confirmed on their Twitter.

This 'FREE VINYL' Isn't Anything is the one you want. Upon shipping and opening, the surface of the vinyl was dirty as sin. But once it was cleaned, it played with no flaws! Dunno why this was rejected, other than they may not have been happy overall with the mix????

Quote from Uncut magazine March 2018 "We did a years worth of test pressings...we'd do 3 cuts each time as there might be a pop on one. Then instead of doing test pressings, when you get 20 copies, we started doing white label runs. We realised there's no point in judging the quality of the test pressing, It had to be judged by going through the system properly. So we'd do three cuts of the same thing with 100 white labels of each...they're all sitting in a room at the moment in a giant pile. It was a crazy process". He's talking about Loveless there but presume he was as meticulous about both reissues - so no expense spared in terms of getting the pressing as close to how he wanted it. However this isn't a white label so can we presume this is actually a rejected press, possibly a complete run as they have proper labels on, albeit mine is a faded looking light brown colour?
Dangerous Dangerous
Are we certain these are limited to those who pre-ordered?
Shakanos Shakanos
I also ordered both 'Isn't Anything' and 'Loveless' right after these were announced for pre-order. The white label 'Isn't Anything' was included here as well. Totally cool!
Kajikus Kajikus
I dont think its a test pressing, it is an alternate cut of the record that was probably pressed at a different plant or with different plates.
EXIBUZYW EXIBUZYW
true, i ordered mine on 2/6 and received it today 3/1 and it was included.
Damdyagab Damdyagab
It was included in the first 500 orders, iirc. MBV posted on social media, 2/19/18, that they were out of them now, and that they wouldn't be available again. Any order before 2/19, 2/18, or so, should have it included. I ordered mine on 2/3 and got this one.
Dellevar Dellevar
I ordered a couple of weeks ago and got delivery today with a test pressing.
Paster Paster
I like this "rejected" test pressing a lot more than the official one. While the official Isn't Anything reissue has lots of vinyl noises and inner groove disortion throughout play, the test pressing sounds perfect. Maybe a bit less punchy, but plays so smooth and perfectly - just like loveless. Due to the limited amount of the test pressing this will be the most valuable item of the new reissue series.
Tekasa Tekasa
I agree, this alternate pressing sounds to me more like the master tape might have sounded (if I only knew how that sounds!). It has a more controlled sound with better image placement and sounds cleaner. I am at loss why this wasn't the official version.
Grillador Grillador
Same. This is nice and quiet without all of the inner groove distortion. The "official" one gives me a headache just thinking about it
Flamehammer Flamehammer
The term "test pressing" is misleading, since everybody who ordered the bundle, even recently, got one, They are absolutely not as rare as usual "test pressings". We probably talk about thousands copies.
Hellblade Hellblade
Where was the “rejected submission” info found? Does anyone know more about this, what exactly that means, how many were pressed, etc?
Dorizius Dorizius
Although likely, especially with the Sean Magee link, it doesn't explicitely say so. We'll probably never know but I'm curious about more of the details. Did they press x number of them and then decide it wasn't working? Are these those presses?I had already read that article but thanks for the info.

Kevin Shields talks about it in this Pitchfork interview:We worked with the very same people who did the Beatles stuff and used the same equipment they used, but I didn’t really get what I needed from that. The quality of the Beatles stuff was very, very good, but that doesn’t mean it’s going to work for everybody. What makes it really good for some kinds of music makes it not very good for other kinds. This Isn't Anything pressing was cut by Sean Magee who also cut The Beatles In Mono which Kevin is referring to.Hope this helps!
