Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer is a 1986 American psychological horror crime film directed and co-written by John McNaughton, about the random crime spree of a serial killer who seemingly operates with impunity. It stars Michael Rooker as the nomadic killer Henry, Tom Towles as Otis, a prison buddy with whom Henry is living, and Tracy Arnold as Becky, Otis's sister. The characters of Henry and Otis are loosely based on convicted real life serial killers Henry Lee Lucas and Ottis Toole. Directed by John McNaughton. With Michael Rooker, Tracy Arnold, Tom Towles, Mary Demas. Henry, a drifter, commits a series of brutal murders, supposedly operating with impunity. Title: Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer 1986. Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer by Fantômas 2001. Henry uses his job as a means to extend his murder spree. Featuring Michael Rooker and David Katz. Written by Richard Fire and John McNaughton. Directed the title makes Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer seem like a cut-rate slasher flick, the movie is actually one of the most disturbing and terrifying examinations of mass murderers ever filmed. Loosely based on the story of confessed murderer Henry Lee Lucas, the film follows Henry Michael Rooker as he selects innocent victims - occasionally with his roommate Otis Tom Towles - and kills them, capturing their deaths on videotape. shows few of Henry's dozen or so crimes. Instead he reveals the victims, at the scenes of their deaths, in slow zoom shots accompanied by elegiac music. He is a coroner with a touch of the poet. Bear with me. Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer is a stinging chiller with a provocative past and a potentially bright future. It came from Chicago. First-time feature director John McNaughton started shooting this graphic tale of a mass murderer back in 1985. McNaughton and coscreenwriter Richard Fire based their fictionalized script on Henry Lee Lucas, a convicted serial killer who confessed to murdering more than 300 people over two decades. Watching a segment about Lucas on TVs 2020, McNaughton was struck by Lucass low-key charm, a trait he felt explained how a killer could get close to his victims. When Otis' sister comes to stay, we see both sides of Henry: the guy next door and the serial killer
