Natural is the Bee Gees' twelfth album tenth worldwide, released in July 1974. It was the first Bee Gees release to be produced by Arif Mardin, who was partially responsible for launching the group's later major success with the follow-up album Main Course. The album's music incorporates more rhythm and blues, soul and funk and hard rock than their previous albums. Bee Gees - Mr Natural 1974. To favorites 3 Download album. Listen album. Natural 1974 brings a new sound for the Bee Gees, and stands as their first collaboration with producer Arif Mardin. Many of the tracks skew towards R&B and rock, and away from the psychedelic tunes the Bee Gees excelled at in the 60s, resulting in an album thats truly an easy-to-listen-to, euphonic pleasure. The album opens with the impossibly smooth single Charade, but kicks up with the third track, a rollicking and brassy rock anthem titled Down the Road. That energy is revisited again on Heavy Breathing, a pounding rock number driven by bass and guitar. The result was Mr. Natural, the sultriest and most soulful record they had ever delivered up to that time. Shedding their pop sensibilities here and singing in a freer, more soulful idiom with a strong Philadelphia soul influence on songs such as Throw a Penny, and with a funky beat backing them up on a lot of this record, the group is scarcely recognizable in relation to their previous work. But, in general, Mr. Natural is an encouraging album. It recaptures the potentially widespread appeal of their early efforts, and injects new life into what could easily have become a moribund institution. With Mr. Natural, producer Arif Mardin helps the Brothers Gibb achieve a masterful melding of each brother's strengths - a perfect balance of vocal interaction between the brothers, with Barry and Robin entwining their voices or taking turns on lead, and all three brothers infusing a song with astounding, intuitive harmonies. This album is a fine moment in Bee Gees music. As a new convert to Bee Gees fandom, I am still exploring their vast catalog. So I can't write a review of Mr. Natural with any authority - other than.
